Basti (Vasti) is the administration of medicated substances — oils, herbal decoctions, milk or honey — through the anal route. It is described in Charaka Samhita as the "Ardha Chikitsa" (half of all treatment) due to its extraordinary efficacy.
The large intestine is the primary site of Vata dosha. By directly nourishing and cleansing this seat of Vata, Basti corrects imbalances throughout the body, relieving pain, stiffness, neurological disorders, and degenerative conditions.
